As I have reflected on our first year here, we have seen the Lord go before us and provide for us in so many ways, some of them surprising. An unexpected area of provision has been the way that this last year has shown me myself more clearly. One of our teammates here has referred to what we’re doing here as a ‘pressure cooker’ for sanctification. My character flaws and sinful tendencies were of course rattling about in my heart while we lived in the UK, but they were easier to ignore / hide / be blind to.
But the last year, with its new circumstances, stresses and opportunities, has deployed its causative verbs on my life. I have been ‘caused to see’ my weakness, ‘caused to know’ my own sinfulness, and ‘caused to understand’ my need for grace like never before. This last year’s causative verbs have not been fun, but in reality they are a kindness from the Lord.
Please pray for us, that we would allow the Lord to correct and shape us as he needs to. He disciplines as a loving Father. It doesn’t feel nice at the time, but ‘produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it’ (Hebrews 12:11). May these early days in our country work towards producing that harvest in us.
We’re having quite a few power issues at the moment. Most parts of the main town (including ours) have had no electricity since the early hours of the morning yesterday. Some are saying now the diesel really has run out for the generators; others are saying the whole system is being changed. Who knows when it will be back! But if you could be praying for a speedy return that would be amazing!
After 2.5 days, the power has just returned!! So, so grateful for your prayers!
The missionary teams in northern England are getting creative! We’re trying lots of different ways to share the gospel with Muslim communities.
This includes talking directly to people on the street and going door-to-door, setting up displays of Bible materials in busy spots, offering English classes as a helpful community service, and running community cafés. We want to show people how awesome Christ is through how we actually live – by genuinely reflecting his kindness, constant love, and selfless care. Please keep our efforts in your prayers.
