5 minute 20 second read
Eugene Peterson, a notable pastor in the US, used to describe discipleship as ‘a long obedience in the same direction.’
This is true for all of us but is particularly reflective of believers from Muslim backgrounds who face discouragement and hostility for choosing to follow Christ. Pioneers cross-cultural workers play a vital role in encouraging these believers to keep going through friendship, bible study, prayer and sharing their lives together.
Unlearning and relearning
Believers from a Muslim background, also need to re-evaluate much of what they have grown up being taught from an early age. God opened the eyes of Mahdi* to the truth of Scripture and called him to change his thinking as he began his walk with the Lord in discipleship.
When I was a Muslim, I believed in everything I was taught about Christians and the Bible. When I became a Christian and read the Bible, I realised that what we were told was all wrong. Jesus was never a Muslim. He is the Saviour of the world. He loves us and wants to save us. We are called to give our hearts to him.
Through your support, our workers can continue to be there long-term for those taking their first steps in discipleship. Please give today and support those walking alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ in the Arab world.

You can support our mission workers as they walk alongside others
By giving to Pioneers Arab World, you are helping us as a mission agency play our role in discipling many people in the Christian faith. On the ground there are around 400 cross-cultural workers across the Arab world connected with our Pioneers mission family, each one sent by local churches. Thank you for your support in this gospel ministry.
To give please visit our new website pioneers.org.uk and select Give to give simply and securely online. Alternatively, you can send a cheque payable to Pioneers and send to PO Box 51, Loughborough, LE11 3WQ
Update on your financial giving

We would like to inform you of some important developments regarding your financial support to the mission.
- Following the legal merger of AWM and Pioneers UK on 1 July 2024 and the integration of sending office operations in 2025 into one Pioneers base in the UK, gifts to the mission unless otherwise restricted will go to the Mission Development Fund. This enables the mission to support all 145 members on the field. Your gifts continue to make a significant impact on ministry among Arab people as the office sends and supports 72 workers and their children – that is half of our membership – as they serve among Arab Muslims. As a result of the merger we are supporting even more workers involved in Arab ministry.
- We are wanting to facilitate the various ways people can give to the mission and have made improvements to our online giving pages. You can now give to the ministry in general, to a worker and to special projects in a few simple clicks. You can make a one-off or regular donation securely on our website, pioneers.org.uk or contact the finance team for details to make standing orders. We are also very happy to continue receiving cheques.
- There are no changes needed to your standing orders at present. We will contact you should changes to our banking processes in the future require any changes on your part.
- Your Gift Aid declaration with AWM remains valid if your circumstances are unchanged. Please notify us of any details that have changed that would affect your Gift Aid declaration. Going forward we will provide a new Gift Aid declaration for first-time donors.
- We have intentionally retained both Pioneers UK and AWM charitable objectives into the unified charity which the board of trustees have wholeheartedly endorsed and will actively promote going forward. We continue to train people and churches in Muslim outreach with our Arab World Training Hub expertise and we continue to provide specialised inductions for those going on short term ministry trips among Arab people.
We remain incredibly grateful for each gift given to further the work of God’s Kingdom among the nations.
